We purchased X – Chocks before our first camping trip after a night of obsessive research on how to stop our rig from rolling away with our family in the middle of the night. Before folks get sensitive, yes, other chocks work just as well if used properly to secure your rig. After research and extensive use, we have found the X – Chock far superior to standard wheel chocks on tandem axle trailers.
The X-Chock design is beneficial for both locking your trailer in place as well as reducing bounce within the rig. It works by adding a firm connection point between your tires on each side of the rig so that they essentially become one. Installation is quick and easy with the supplied open ended wrench and they are designed to fit narrow and wide spaced axles.
To install the X-Chocks you will need to place standard chocks on each side of the trailer when unhitching. Once unhitched and leveled front to back, you simply slide the chocks between the tires and tighten.
Pros:
- Sturdy, corrosion resistent materials
- Easy to install
- Will give you confidence when parked near steep hillsides
Cons:
- Standard chocks still needed when unhitching trailer
- Some trailers with extra wide axle spacing could require extra long chocks.
Tips:
- Take your time
- Be sure to install only after you have leveled the unit to prevent damage
- Do not raise the unit up and down after installing chocks
